The Cadbury

Bristol, 2023-02-24

It’s Friiiiiiday night. My friend’s birthday celebration. A table for 16 of us booked at The Cadbury, a pub in Montpelier that I’ve been told does good roasts, which is all well and good but it’s - as previously discussed - Friiiiiiday night. But I am a simple man, and I am presented with a menu of burgers, which pleases me. A classic, with chips. The burger itself is, I believe, from Popti and Beast, which is a pretty good indicator that I’m in for a fine ol’ time - it is generously sized, a more than acceptable burger-to-bun ratio. The cheese (a classic cheddar) retains a distinct flavour amidst everything else. The sauces, a garlic and herb mayo and some barbecue sauce, complement everything perfectly. But, almost most importantly of all, the accoutrements - your lettuce, your tomato, your onions - are not the oversized examples found in a child’s plastic food toy set. They are small, well apportioned, fitting within the bun itself. This pleases me deeply. The chips could have been a bit crisper with a bit more seasoning, but were more than acceptable. I’m still angry about paying six pounds for a pint of Neck Oil, though. Six pounds! For a pint of beer! Six!
