I’m not vegan. Nothing against it, just like meat too much. But my friend Alasdair is, and so when I read a review of a wonderful new vegan pasta place opening in Bristol, it seems like a golden opportunity. We find time one lunch to check it out, and I am very happy with the experience. Also the food was good (ba-dum tish etc. etc.). An espresso martini starts me off, before the actual starters - I have some non-chicken nuggets served oddly on a giant lettuce leaf, which are to be fair nice enough, but I suppose chicken nuggets can’t be the hardest thing to replicate. The cacio e pepe gnocchi, on the other hand, are remarkable, given that literally half the ingredients of the sauce should be cheese. Sadly the same level of impressiveness doesn’t last for my carbonara, which is weak and slightly watery in consistency, although the fake bacon bits do the job quite nicely. Speculoos donuts to finish are simply too much but I do not regret for a second us ordering the 9 donut option over the 6 donut option. I’m still going to want the real thing, but it’s nice to think I don’t need it.
