Two explicitly vegan restaurants in a row, coming off the back of Pastan the day before. This is not the beginning of a new phase of my life. Frankie and I finish our training run and are so in need of calories. We originally think just a sandwich will do, so amble over to Baldwin Street to see if Sandwich Sandwich is open on a Sunday. Alas it is not. At this point, anything calorific within 30 seconds of our current location will do, and hello the bright green glow of Oowee Vegan. I order a fake chicken burger, some fries, and a chocolate milkshake. They are good in that order of goodness. The milkshake was slightly underwhelming, a bit too gummy, a little too bland. The fries, yep, fine, good. The chicken burger was all round a success - I imagine it’s probably a slightly easier thing to get right. I’m not sure what the non-chicken chicken actually is, but that, the burger sauce, the fake cheese, all added up to a quite satisfying burger experience that I wouldn’t have tangibly put below a normal burger. I’m not saying that that should be the bar for vegan alternatives, but on some level, yes, yes I am.
