1000 Tiny Birds

My Burrito

Bristol, 2023-02-08

You know how sometimes you don’t really pay attention to the places on your doorstep? They are just too familiar, too part of the fabric, to really notice and think to eat at. It takes an outside jolt to consider them. A friend of mine met me outside my flat to head up to OPPO but, starving, we decided food would be good - after all, when is it not? First considered was Brewdog, but oh was it loud and oh did we want to actually talk to each other properly. But then - My Burrito, all of 30 seconds from my front door, was suddenly in play. We were the only two patrons and the soundtrack was a YouTube video of “hot soul classics” at low volume - the dream. A roasted chicken quesadilla, served with a sour cream dip, was exactly what I wanted at that moment. I spied the preparation, noting and appreciating the sheer quantity of cheese being added into the proceedings. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already considering returning one lunch time or seven. That’s the dangerous thing about finding the places on your doorstep. They’re all too easy to find your way back to.
