Burger Theory

Bristol, 2023-03-05

The trip to Burger Theory was, sadly, very much a tale of two halves. It was an impromptu decision, post a quite long training run with Frankie (~19km) and a desperate need to quite urgently replenish some calories. Our run finished with us vaguely in the centre, a burger feels like the vibe, and I am a big fan of Burger Theory. I’m delighted, when I get there, to find that the Moor Burger Please - topped with cheese, bacon ale jam, Dijonnaise, and a fried gherkin - is back on the menu, which I honestly don’t think has been the case since pre-pandemic times. I happily order that, make it a double, throw in some chips and a milkshake (sadly, the gingerbread milkshake has not survived whatever changes briefly took away my beloved Moor Burger Please), excellent. Unfortunately, execution was lacking. Maybe it was just that it was Sunday lunch, maybe it was just a bad day. The patty itself was overdone to a crisp, the bun overly toasted. The traditional Moor Burger Please came with Swiss cheese, imparting a wonderful textural counterpoint that its new incarnation with standard American just cannot compete with. I would still go back, but I’d be lying if I said this hasn’t dented the appeal in my eyes.
