I have both no tumble drier and limited patience. As such, I frequent At The Well, a launderette/café in Stokes Croft, whenever I have exhausted my supply of two sets of bedsheets. At The Well is a lovely space, much divorced from the clinical coldness of most stereotypical launderettes. Instead it feels warm, homey. A wide range of brunch options, baked goods, and hot and cold drinks are available. I have noticed the hot chocolates being made from a seemingly homemade syrup rather than powder, which impresses me. Today, I am keeping it simple and, due to the fact it’s the 28th of the month, budgetarily sensible. Poached eggs on toast, a classic done very well indeed. The yolks are a perfect consistency, soaking into the generously buttered sourdough underneath once satisfyingly pierced. This and a jumbo cryptic crossword ably fill the time as I wait for sheets to wash and dry, with a slice of vegan chocolate cake extending my stay beyond any washing needs. It is of great delight to me that such a place exists in Bristol where I am happy to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and also feel in some sense productive.
