My first ever full (ish) length set. Something that had been brewing on some level for nearly four years, that had been worked on in bits and pieces and in writing sessions in Mallorca and now it was time. I was as amazed as anyone at how packed out OPPO was, and not just people I knew. A delight to have Tom MCing, and Alasdair opening for me. It went well! The noise bleed from the bar was less than ideal, but we move. I forced myself to take getting on stage very deliberately, and I was taken aback at just how powerful that was. I do think there’s a certain amount of audiences laughing more at a headliner because they’re the headliner, and hey, I’m not going to argue with it now am I. I was pretty happy with how it went, no major stumbling blocks, being able to improvise around a couple of trickier moments, and a good number of actual applause breaks. Afterwards, Zac told me how much he enjoyed seeing me do something deeper and more meaningful than I normally do, and it was nice to have confirmation, on that level at least, that that is the kind of thing I’ve always been better at.
