I am a fan of the number of pubs in Bristol that have well established kitchens. We have spoken recently of The Scrandit and Left Handed Giant. But an undisputed and dependable favourite is Wings Diner in Small Bar. The kind of place where I know what I want and I’ll get it. Specialising in Korean fried chicken, there are a number of forms and formats in which this attainable - wings (duh), pieces, burgers, etc. I’ve tried them all. They are all very good. But I’ll not lie to you - since then, I’ve only ever ordered the same thing: the dirty fries. Loaded with chicken, cheese, and some token spring onions to add some variety of colour to the admittedly beige proceedings, then topped with your choice of gravy or Korean sauce, but my choice is and always will be the gravy. They are very generous with the chicken, and the distribution and consistency of the cheese is to be commended in a world where it is not a safe assumption that you will be looked after. I can’t pretend I feel good about the experience. I know how much my next run is going to have to be extended by to justify this. But it’s worth it any day of the week.
