New Moon On The Quay

Bristol, 2023-06-19

New Moon On The Quay is, I’m fairly certain, easily the closest restaurant to my flat. It is amazing that I’ve not been, but I think that’s because I’ve spent near seven years judging a book by its cover. By all accounts, though, it’s meant to be very good. So after rushing back from a squash game to make myself presentable, I stroll over on a Monday evening and to Milly and me it honestly feels like a holiday - sunglasses on, sat out in the sun overlooking the river, a cold beer in hand. We go for a wide selection. Part of the premise is that they have a monthly focus on a different country, with specials on offer from that cuisine. In this case, Zanzibar. We go for the Zanzibar chicken curry, beautifully tender chicken in a fragrant coconut curry sauce, served with rice. More traditionally, patatas bravas; chorizo, rioja style; calamari. Less traditionally, parmesan and potato crusted cod, with tartar sauce and mushy peas; mushrooms in a Sambuca sauce - hot damn if that isn’t the highlight of the night though. As the night draws in, we head inside for a cocktail, before making our respective ways back home - a job considerably easier for me.
