Tucked away on Park Row is Flour House, one of my favourite Bristol café haunts - I’ve been going regularly since its second day in business, and even for a time ran a monthly comedy night there. That’s not why I like it, though. Although I used to be a lunch regular, over the last few months I’ve mostly found myself there for a weekend brunch. Today, with a limited (but much appreciated nevertheless) New Year’s Day menu, the thing that most obviously would hit the spot was their full English - the way they cook their sausages is divine, especially in their lightly grilled baps, but here they a but a fraction of the dish, complemented with the usual fry-up fare and, most interestingly, a pea crush (a more sustainable substitute for the less-eco-conscious avo). Charly always prepares a well-stocked display of baked goods; if you ever go and find yourself staring down a pistachio and rose cake with rich pink icing, you cannot go wrong other than to say ‘no’. They also do one of the best chocolate milkshakes in town. Always a favourite, and with a bright, airy space to it, Flour House is an absolute go-to for your brunching and lunching wishes and desires.
