FED now seems to exist in a different location to the one it was in the last time I indulged, but that’s fine, I was only momentarily thrown. Picked for its proximity to my friends’ new house such that I could go and visit afterwards (to see the new place, to see their cat Pesto, and to inevitably be roped into feebly doing some gardening), I bus it up to the top of Gloucester Road, mostly due to poor time management on my part that early in the morning (or was it that I went for a run first? I honestly can’t remember, writing this a few weeks later). For savoury, I go classic - a sausage roll. I remember when I used to hate the things, a product of one of the few lowlights of my primary school’s dinnerladies, but recently I am a convert. FED does not disappoint. But this choice is mostly to accommodate wanting the chocolate orange mousse cake, amply proportioned in both sponge and mousse, a rich, tart orange zest to it. Drinking, alternately, a passable hot chocolate and slightly-over-cucumbered tap water, I am feeling sufficiently fuelled to go and stomp some wildflower seeds into soil. What more could you ask for?
