Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the latest fine dining on offer to you. Premium Economy @ American Airlines offers a multi-course tasting menu experience which takes place over seven hours. We begin with an amuse bouche of an individually wrapped Lotus Biscoff, designed to cleanse the palate of any lingering non-speculoos flavours you might have picked up in Departures. Shortly after, the drink pairings begin with a plastic cup of nondescript red wine. A seeded bread roll (again individually wrapped) comprises the bread course, supplemented by Jacobs crackers and a smooth Laughing Cow “cheese” spread. Short rib in peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes is the hero dish of the night, followed by a wilting salad and the first dessert, an (actually quite nice, to be fair) white chocolate millionaire’s shortbread. The traditional sorbet palate cleanser is replaced by a tub of chocolate ice cream, before we are served a cold pasta salad with a genuinely unidentifiable protein. A fruit course of inedible melon briefly interrupts the proceedings, before we settle on a chocolate ganache pot from Pots & Co. I didn’t see anyone walk out mid-meal, so clearly this was a resounding success. A must for the bib gourmands. Bon appetit.
