Never one to turn down a free exhibition, or the chance to on some level support a - well, not friend, acquaintance, but still, I dutifully made my way over to Spike Island one Friday evening, being surprisingly tired but I can’t remember why for the life of me now. It was the annual open studios event, where you - the public - are invited to wander round the resident artists’ studio spaces, see their work and their workspace, and potentially talk to them. Unfortunately, Rosie wasn’t at her space when I made it there, but it was nice to see it. Beyond specifically “art” art, I am fascinated by the general creative process, and there was something immensely appealing about having a studio. I did wonder what one would look like for a stand up comedian. Wonderful to see how busy it was - seemingly the entire UWE arts faculty was there, and my god, I’m not judging but you do look at the assembled horde and wonder whether the Daily Mail is that off the mark with their stereotypes of students. I leave in a minor reverie of art as a whole and that’s quite a nice feeling of a Friday night, really, isn’t it.
