There are many sources of recommendations for places to eat that I go to - a favourite slightly off the beaten track one is the list of places that have been mentioned on the Off Menu podcast, handily tracked and sorted by city on the website. Double points, of course, if it’s a recommendation from Acaster or Ed Gamble themselves. Milk Bar is one of those. I decide, on a lazy Sunday nursing a mild post-wedding hangover, whilst wandering through the city, to make tracks to the flagship store and enjoy a heavily stacked slice of red velvet cake. Three layers of cake, interspersed with cream cheese and red velvet frosting, and topping with freeze dried raspberries. It is quite a lot. It’s very dense, I do have to chip away at it with a book (ok, well, a Kindle) in hand, and this is pretty much my dinner, so that’s not a good sign (the frozen raspberries count as a portion, right? Right?). I’m not convinced I’d make the effort to return on a future trip to New York, but I certainly wouldn’t say no if I’m in the neighbourhood. A lot of machinery appeared to be broken, so no drinks for me - maybe that might have changed my mind/
