It would seem churlish, with Mika playing a venue which is a literal three minute walk from my flat, to not go, wouldn’t it? I nearly went to go to see him at the Roundhouse last year, how could I not see him in Bristol? What a lot of fun this was. It is obviously a spectacle, full of costume changes and wandering into the crowd and being a show. But this belies the musical skill of the man. He’s knocking out these songs like there’s no tomorrow and with only slight hint of the wear of time (attuned to these things as I am, being a Suede fan, I do note the avoidance of the high notes on We Are Golden). Being nominally a festival set, we’re full of the bangers, and what bangers they are - and still Billy Brown and Blame It On The Girls happily make appearances. The audience so often sing along incorrectly - one girl baffles me by singing along loudly and out of tune, then stops to film for a bit, then continues - even she doesn’t want to hear herself do that, but the rest of us must. Just let me listen to Mika sing in peace, please.
